Organovo Appoints Robert Baltera to Board
SAN DIEGO — October 26, 2009 — Organovo, Inc., a regenerative medicine company focused on bioprinting technology, announced today the appointment of Robert Baltera, M.S., M.B.A, to its board of directors. Baltera is the Chief Executive Officer of Amira Pharmaceuticals in San Diego and has over 19 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology experience.
"Bob's broad experience in key areas of the life sciences industry will provide great value to Organovo as we pursue our vision to move forward important new medical technologies," said Keith Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of Organovo.
In his role leading Amira Pharmaceuticals, Baltera has been instrumental in focusing the company's development efforts, strengthening and developing its pipeline and forging key collaborations with partners such as GlaxoSmithKline.
Prior to Amira, Baltera served at Amgen, Inc. in a number of capacities, including development team leader for Kineret for rheumatoid arthritis and Vice President of corporate and contract manufacturing. He has an M.B.A from the Anderson School at UCLA and earned a bachelor's degree in microbiology and a master's degree in genetics from Penn State.
